Of course, Jessica has a face that works best with even the simplest hairstyles. In photo 7 and 8 we see her
hair pulled back snugly and styled with a horizontal (or slightly curved) fringe line. The look emphasizes her eyes and gives her
a “girl-next-door” quality.
And simple doesn’t mean it isn’t stylish. Jessica’s hair dresses up nicely, whether it is with
smoothly styled curls in the classic Hollywood-Starlet style, or simply swept back and secured at the nape of her neck for a long,
silky look (photo 9 and 10). She is a true beauty, and when she’s got the right look working for her, she’s unbeatable.
Since she will always be remembered as America’s favorite Disney Princess, Anne Hathaway bursts
into the public consciousness via a breakout role in Disney’s “The Princess Diaries”. Anne is a lovely young woman and her naturally
auburn hair is a perfect compliment to her complexion.
In fact, while there are some problem areas with Anne’s features – she has wide-spaced and
large eyes, and a wide, large mouth – the thing I feel she has most often erred in concerns her hair color. Usually this is because
she has gone too dark for her skin tone. The result is that her complexion appears pallid and washed out. Photos 1, 2 and 3 are some examples.
Yet, even when she keeps her hair to a more flattering color, the features can present a
problem with certain styles. For example, we see in photo 4 that this up-swept style with the side-fall of fringe only serves to
emphasize the prominence of the eyes and mouth because the style offers no counterbalance.
And this partial up-style (photo 5) with its severely drawn upper portion and the fall of length at the
nape of the neck, not only makes the eyes and mouth appear larger than life, but causes the ears to appear more prominent that
they otherwise would. While the hair is beautifully coiffed, the overall effect is awkward and gangly.
Anne tends to look her best when she wears her hair to best effect. Warmer colors of rich
auburn and even some shades of fiery red can look marvelous on her. The styling is best when the hair is worn down. For example,
a casual look on photo 6 and 7 that flatters and looks beautiful on her. The style frames the face wonderfully and the wave balances the
features to good effect.
And hair worn-down doesn’t have to look “casual”. Anne’s hair looks fabulous when it is styled
intensely. The hair is terrific whether it’s a head full of cascading curls or styled in smooth curves and waves. On photo 8 and 9
Anne proves clearly that the hair doesn’t have to be worn up to look classy.
